Workshops are a central component of our artists’ space at Studio 27. If you can see your idea flowing well in our studio space, we encourage you to use the form below to pitch your workshop. Please carefully read through the drop down menus below for more details.

  • Studio 27 is a well-lit, beautifully designed multi-use gallery located Downtown Kitchener with a café & bar and community workshop space. Thoughtfully designed with modular furnishings and finishings, the space is able to accommodate anything from an intimate poetry reading to a multi-week in-studio workshop.

We’re building a tool library to help alleviate the costs of hosting. If material costs are prohibiting you from scaling your workshops, it’s possible we can assist in acquiring the tools you need. Include this information in the form below and we can try to add them to our tool library.

As many ideas as we have, we know that the creativity in the community will generate uses for the space that we’d never have come up with ourselves. We’re looking forward to hearing your plans!

  • The goal of our workshop studio is to allow as many members of our community as possible to create, share and generate income through their art. We want hosts to try new things while we cover most of the logistics of hosting an event.

We’re flexible and are offering workshop slots from dawn ‘til dusk. If you have an idea for a workshop, we want to make it work for you and your guest’s schedules.

With a full service café & bar on-site, your guests will always have access to a caffeine kick, small bites and beverages (we’re licensed but also offer non-alcoholic beverages).

With variety in medium and diversity in hosts, we want to see the space evolve with the needs and desires of the downtown community. The revenue from this program goes directly back into enhancing this project with new equipment, new community engagement projects and fair wages for staff.

  • We manage ticketing for events so you can focus on preparing the best workshop possible for your guests. The collection of all fees from participants will be centralized and transparent for hosts with all details available in a monthly invoice. If the host offers anything for sale or any add-ons to the workshop, we can process these payments on-site and offer a lump sum payout on a monthly basis.

Regarding fees- we charge a flat rate of 17% of workshop ticket sales. We pay for all processing fees for credit/debit/online transactions.

The thought behind this structure is to motivate hosts to sell as many tickets as they can while also relieving them of “flat rental fees” in the case a workshop isn’t completely sold out. We don’t want hosts to hold back from hosting an experimental workshop due to fear of not selling all available spaces.

All fees will be subtracted from the host’s payout and will be documented on their monthly invoice. All accounts are to be settled and hosts and vendors paid out by end of each calendar month.

Our Open Studio program allows members to use our creative studio and tool library whenever it is not occupied by a workshop or event (typically, 8-10 hours of Open Studio time are available daily). Read more below!

  • Open Studio allows a limited number of artists all-day access to our studio space and tool library. Typically, there will be 8-12 hours of open studio time each day available to members. If you enjoy working in a lively space with other creative folks, perhaps our Open Studio Month-by-Month membership is right for you.

All members are able to store their current project and materials on site in a safe storage area. We prioritize each artist having the time and space required for their work and therefore the number of Open Studio membership spaces may vary from time to time.

We will occasionally be hosting gallery cocktail events to feature our Open Studio artists’ work.

Any applications to join Open Studio will be reviewed promptly and kept on file for 1 year. When spaces open up, applicants will be contacted to fill the open spots.

  • The Open Studio membership is payable monthly at $89 CAD (+applicable taxes).

This includes the use of all “hard” tools (i.e drills, clamps, easels, dry racks, sink stations etc), storage for current work and materials, and access to our energetic, bright studio space. Members will have access each day from 7am-11pm, excluding scheduled workshops and events.

There is no timeframe commitment- so long as the space is being used in a considerate manor, members are encouraged to make the most of it. We bring a new member into the program when space and time allow! All applications stay on file for 1 year.

Our design shop hosts various local vendors and artists. We’re always looking to stock new unique pieces and goods from creators. We’re not your typical gift shop- we get excited over the weird, wacky, and unique.

  • We try to make it as simple as possible to be a vendor at Studio 27. We have no upfront stocking fees and below industry commission rates on sold pieces. We’re looking to stock unique, locally made works- this could look like small batch ceramics, handmade furniture, or prints. It could also be something totally different!

We have wall space and shelf space to display a variety of works. Artists are encouraged to be involved in the stocking and curating process.

  • Studio 27 is a small but mighty creative hub in Downtown Kitchener. During our long business hours (7am-11pm), we’re a place designated to viewing, creating and purchasing art and goods.

Our on-site café & bar, various events, and workshops happening daily bring in like-minded guests to the space. Community members will be viewing (and hopefully buying!) your works throughout the day without your presence being necessary.

  • The design shop/gallery operates in a traditional gallery format- however, we offer below-market commission rates to vendors. All purchases facilitated by Studio 27 for vendors are subject to a flat 17% fee (before tax).

On-site staff are present during all hours to complete and verify transactions on behalf of the vendor. Point of sale fees (~2% of credit card sales, $0.15 per debit transaction) are included in the 17% and are to be paid by Studio 27).

There are no fees due upfront for vendors to display works and products. We subtract your commission fee and provide a detailed invoice of sales and payout monthly.

There are no time or volume commitments for vendors. Studio 27 will remain in constant contact with vendors to ensure arrangements remains beneficial.
